Browns bench DeShone Kizer, immediately score a touchdown”

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Browns benched rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer after a scoreless first half against the New York Jets.

"It took me three years and two teams, but dadgummit, I got me a win at FirstEnergy [Stadium], so I'm glad about that", he said with a smile.

Kizer was 8-of-17 for 87 yards in the first half and threw an interception at the 2-yard-line to kill a golden scoring chance for his team. It's the first lead the Browns have had all season at 7-3.

The Jets also forced two key takeaways in the red zone. On third-and-goal from the 3, he and Isaiah Crowell did not connect on a pitch off a surprising option play, and the Jets recovered the fumble.

Those turnovers were the fourth and fifth for the Browns in the red zone this season, an National Football League high. However, the Jets committed an offsides penalty, which gave the Browns the conversion. Kizer has thrown four interceptions in the red zone this season, also an National Football League high.

Another loss, the 20th in 21 games under head coach Hue Jackson, have the Browns sitting at 0-5 and in the driver's seat for the No. 1 overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

"It was a big play", Claiborne said.

Hogan relieved Kizer in Baltimore after Kizer suffered a migraine.

Over the first 15 minutes of play, the Browns had 61 yards of total offense and mounted a late-quarter drive that went 50 yards and into the goal-to-go area.
