Facebook's Umang Bedi quits; Sandeep Bhushan is interim MD”

"He has built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best", Facebook said in a statement today.

Facebook India in an official statement announced that Umang Bedi, its Managing Director for India and South Asia, has tendered his resignation and will leave the social media giant by end of this year.

Bedi had joined Facebook in July a year ago, taking over the India business from Kirthiga Reddy who moved to the companys headquarters in Menlo Park, the US. The company didn't share who will be taking over Bedi's position after he has left the company.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Bhushan joined Facebook in April 2015 from Samsung Electronics.

Bedi resigned a little over a year after joining the company to head its operations in India and South Asia. Sandeep Bhushan, Director, Consumer and Media, South Asia has been appointed as the interim MD.

According to The Next Web report of July 2017, Facebook users in India have increased 27% in six months compared to 12% in the United States.

Reddy had stepped down from her role last February, shortly after a public debate between Facebook's Free Basics platform that aimed to provide free Internet access to certain apps and websites registered on its platform by striking a partnership with a telecom operator. At the time the company said Reddy was planning to change roles for some time.

She is now Managing Global Client Partner and Emerging Markets Lead, Global Accounts at Facebook.
