Iceland Qualifies For World Cup!

Iceland Qualifies For World Cup!”

Iceland became the smallest country to qualify for the World Cup when they beat Kosovo 2-0 on Monday to book a place at their first finals in Russian Federation next year as winners of Group I.

Sigurdsson set Iceland on their way to their second successive major tournament finals when he scored their first goal.

While Kosovo is eliminated from a chance at participating in the next World Cup, Iceland is still in a fight for a first-place finish with two other teams.

With some 335,000 residents, Iceland easily bested Trinidad & Tobago's population of 1.3 million in 2006 to become the smallest nation to secure passage to the World Cup finals.

Williams, however, was at fault for the goal that saw Ireland secure a chance of qualifying via the playoffs when he was dispossessed in a risky area and James McLean scored the victor.

With Iceland coasting to a 2-0 victory over Kosovo to win the group on 22 points, Croatia took second place on 20 with the Ukrainians finishing in third on 17.

In the key match against Croatia in Kiev, the Ukraine national team on football has finished his first match at the NSC "Olympic" in Kiev is not an open account.

With Serbia winning 1-0 over Georgia to top Group D, the showdown in Cardiff was for the prize of a playoff berth in November.

Italy knew they would be heading into the play-offs and the four-time World Cup winners beat Albania 1-0 thanks to Antonio Candreva's goal, while Macedonia hammered bottom-side Liechtenstein 4-0.
