Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Kane named on shortlist for Ballon d'Or”

Harry Kane was one of six Premier League players to make the shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, as France Football announced 20 out of 30 nominees for the 2017 award on Monday.

Barca and Uruguay striker Suarez, Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak and Napoli forward Dries Mertens were named in the second phase of the announcement, followed by Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne, Tottenham's Kane, Bayern Munich's Lewandowski, Manchester United's David De Gea and Roma's Edin Dzeko, Espnfc.com reported.

Kane has now been recognised for his performances for Spurs, with the England global finishing as top goalscorer in the Premier League last season and starting the new campaign with 15 goals for club and country.

Paris Saint-Germain's world-record summer signing Neymar was also included in the first batch of names, along with Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala and Real Madrid stars Luka Modric and Marcelo.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona rival Lionel Messi are both expected to be named on the shortlist.

The Ballon d'Or is an award presented by weekly magazine France Football and is voted for by European journalists.

The victor of this year's award is expected to be announce din December of this year, with the full 30-man shortlist to be revealed throughout Monday.

After playing a starring role in guiding Madrid to Champions League glory last season, Ronaldo is the favorite to win the award and if he does help it, he will level Messi in terms of having won it five times.
