Waymo, safety groups launch campaign for self-driving cars”

With that, then Alphabet Inc (Google's parent company) is partnering its self-driving auto unit, Waymo, with many other related groups to launch a campaign aimed at better educating skeptical Americans about their safety and value.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the National Safety Council, the Foundation for Blind Children and the Foundation for Senior Living are among the groups teaming with Waymo in hopes of making the public more comfortable with the idea of sharing the road with autonomous drive vehicles.

The "Let's Talk Self Driving" campaign will aim to increase understanding about autonomous vehicles and highlight how driverless cars can improve safety, enhance mobility, reduce traffic and deliver other benefits.

Waymo hopes to win over Americans who fear riding in a self-driving auto, which was about three-quarters of the population according to an American Automobile Association survey in March.

Google's self-driving auto company has launched a new educational campaign on driverless vehicles, part of an effort to win over consumers who may be skeptical about the emerging technology.

"There's a lot to talk about when it comes to self-driving cars". Getting the public behind self-driving technology is going to be a key step for all of the companies now developing it and Waymo isn't the only one to start working for the public's trust. The campaign will include digital, outdoor and radio advertising and its accompanying website will be updated with additional resources.

Waymo's campaign is timely as reports surfaced last week that the company could be launching an autonomous ride-hailing fleet in Phoenix as early as this month. The message: the world would be a safer place and easier to get around (particularly those without a license) with self-driving cars.

Playing the human drivers are more unsafe angle, Krafcik added that "when 94 percent of road crashes today involve human error, self-driving cars promise a future where anyone can ride with a driver that never gets drunk, tired, or distracted".
