Amazon's Alexa can recognize the voices of multiple users

Amazon's Alexa can recognize the voices of multiple users”

If the anti-echo sediments continue for Amazon, things don't look good for other Amazon Echo products, with the Echo Spot costing a pricy $130, despite having a smaller screen. Starting today, the company will finally start rolling out customized voice detection.

As you might expect, Amazon is also using Alexa voice profiles for shopping. And, if she doesn't recognize who's speaking, she'll just revert to the default Alexa experience.

We heard recently that Google had chose to block YouTube on the Echo Show, the two companies have apparently not come to an agreement regarding YouTube on Amazon devices.

Amazon tells us that the voice recognition feature will extend across the entire range of Alexa devices, as well as numerous third-party Alexa devices not made by Amazon. You'll go to your account settings and tap Your Voice, then tap on your profile name. Back in April, Google Home gained the ability to recognize individual voices, which allows the device to personalize its response for everyone in your house or apartment.

Now, a few months later, Amazon has evened the score. For instance, if I tell Alexa simply to "play music", she'll start playing songs based on my preferences. You can head over to Amazon right now and purchase one for $199. You'll be asked to choose an Alexa-powered device to train with, and then once you've read out ten sample phrases the profile is complete. Additional voice recognition use cases are on the way, Amazon says. After that, voice profiles will work with several different features.
