Oculus announces $199 'Oculus Go' standalone headset

Oculus announces $199 'Oculus Go' standalone headset”

"We believe Oculus Go will be the most accessible VR experience", said new head of Oculus VR, Hugo Barra. One of the big features of Santa Cruz is its inside-out tracking, meaning that the headset won't require external sensors like the Oculus Rift now does. There are expensive, best-in-class, desktop-based solutions like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift that are stunning, but require lots of wires and an expensive computer. "We want to get a billion people in virtual reality", Zuckerberg said. There's no phone or PC required, and it's much more affordable when compared to existing VR headsets on the market. While he didn't say when the headset is expected to launch, Oculus did note that the developer should be able to get their hands on devkits as early as November. For one, it doesn't seem to have inside-out tracking or motion controllers with full tracking.

Oculus has shared minimal hardware details about the Oculus Go at this point. The company's upcoming Oculus Go headset costs $199, which is less than all of the Windows Mixed Reality headsets that are launching next week.
