OnePlus allegedly collects personal details of smartphone users”

It is upto the user to realise how proper is the company's response. In the recent past, OnePlus has been accused for manipulating benchmarks, incorrectly mounting displays, incompetency in providing adequate device support and now the company has been reportedly found guilty of collecting user data without their knowledge. Moore discovered that some of the data being sent to OnePlus' servers included the phone's IMEI number, the phone number, MAC addresses, mobile network names and IMSI prefixes, Wi-Fi connection info, and the phone's serial number. In a blog, Moore explained that OnePlus was collecting timestamped details such as when the user locked the device, and unlocked it as well as the abnormal reboot. What's really baffling is that the Chinese company is already aware of privacy issue, as past year security researcher Christopher Moore discovered his OnePlus 2 smartphone was sending data to a HTTPS domain belonging to OnePlus without user's consent. The app cant be turned off since it is part of the System, but it can be manually disabled every time the phone is restarted. In a time where user information and security of sensitive information is becoming more important, a transparent and comprehensive understanding of what information is being collected and for what goal (as well as the option to completely opt out of such collection) would be greatly appreciated in any situation. This transmission of usage activity can be turned off by navigating to "Settings" - "Advanced" - "Join user experience program". Apparently, there are two apps are to be blamed for collecting and sending personal information to OnePlus' domain: OnePlus Device Manager and OnePlus Device Manager Provider.

Some OnePlus users are again raising privacy concerns over OxygenOS's telemetry tracking, namely that some of the data being gathered makes it possible to connect the user with the data. It appears that the Chinese manufacturer is breaking consumers trust in a bid to provide them with improved after-sales support.

After deeper investigation, the culprit responsible for data collection is a system app called “OnePlus System Service”.

Granted, were sure OnePlus isnt the only company collecting usage information. So you just hook your phone to the PC, and run the following adb command: pm uninstall -k -user 0 pkg. Other Chinese OEMs like OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi have also been accused in the previous year for sending sensitive user information to Chinese servers at regular intervals. Also, they should provide an option to opt out of such sort of data collection.
