Wales manager Chris Coleman: We got frustrated after Ireland goal

Wales' hopes of qualifying for next summer's World Cup in Russian Federation were dashed after a 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland on Monday night.

We could go top in the event of an unlikely Serbian defeat.

"It's different now. We're in campaigns and we're taking it to the wire, taking it to the last game and that's all we can do".

"I don't think everybody would want to play us", he told reporters. Wales put us under that pressure as befits a side who did so brilliantly at the Euros.

The match will be under much scrutiny not only because of the high stakes.

Both sides are capable of automatic qualification, but they are aware that victory for either of one would spell the end for the other.

Wales have won just one of their last 10 games against the Republic Of Ireland and none of their last seven.

Irish boss Martin O'Neill could now opt to start Daryl Murphy against Wales after the Nottingham Forest striker scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Moldova on Friday night.

Some excellent work on the right flank by Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick set up the 28-year-old West Brom star to lash home a superb finish.

It's been 59 years since Wales has qualified for a World Cup, while the Republic of Ireland hasn't made it since 2002.

"We moved up in that ranking so we should be alright, but there are some tough games coming up".

Ranked 34th in the world by Federation Internationale de Football Association, they trail Wales by 21 places, but have not lost to them in seven encounters, stretching back to a 1-0 defeat in a friendly in Dublin in 1992.

Although Long is out, James McClean and Robbie Brady return from suspension. "We'll see. I'm going to take a bit of time with my family and friends, my children, and when the dust settles we'll see where we are". "It wasn't really a battle where we had to properly defend and defend, we just had to make sure that we didn't give anything stupid away".

"So even without the unfortunate incident in Dublin with (Neil Taylor) and Seamus, this was always going to be a game where there will be two teams locking horns".
