Arsene Wenger speaks out against Christmas Eve fixture

Arsene Wenger speaks out against Christmas Eve fixture”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he would rather not have a match on Christmas Eve amid reports that his side's clash with Liverpool will be moved to that date.

When asked about playing on Christmas Eve, Wenger said: "I know that we have to adapt to the schedule dictating by TV".

"If that happens, I think no game should be played after 2pm".

Football fans have been spared the risk of potentially getting home in the early hours of Christmas Day morning after the Premier League confirmed any match on Christmas Eve would kick off before 16.00 GMT.

"What you wouldn't like to sacrifice is the evening with family, but overall we have moved towards a society where religion isn't considered in any decisions anymore".

A Christmas Eve Premier League fixture is also likely to put extra strain on emergency services, and make travel hard for fans. "People want to watch football during the Christmas period".

Miles added the meeting with the Premier League's executive chairman, Richard Scudamore, had proved fruitful and he welcomed the opening of a channel of negotiation between the league and representatives from supporters of all 20 clubs.

"At today's PL/FSF Fans Group meeting Richard Scudamore commits to no 4pm KO or later on Christmas Eve".

"December PL TV picks will be announced 19 Oct but Xmas Eve games and beyond take another week to confirm".

"R Scudamore commits to no PL TV KOs on Sunday mornings/nights".

Leicester Tigers can not move their game because the match with Saracens is being broadcast live on BT Sport. "Multiple TV KOs at same time".
