Bernie Sanders set to speak at Women's Convention in Detroit

Bernie Sanders set to speak at Women's Convention in Detroit”

In January, millions of women came out in an extraordinary and unprecedented display of power and resistance. Waters will also speak at the convention.

Organizers behind the Women's Convention still feel the Bern - and for that, they are feeling the backlash.

'We all know how busy women leader are, and we are grateful for the support of women like Secretary Clinton along with Senators Harris, Warren and Gillibrand, ' the press release read, in part. Bernie Sanders will be a featured speaker at the three-day event, which will take place in Detroit later this month.

Those who didn't understand that the backlash towards Sanders alleged that the convention's organizer's likely wouldn't be able to afford preferred speaker Hillary Clinton, who was reported to be priced at $275,000 in 2015. I know Sanders recognizes his privilege, but he's still a man.

Other prominent speakers at the conference include U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D. Calif., as well as actress Amber Tamlyn, CNN political commentator Sally Kohn, Michigan Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer and actress/producer Piper Perabo.

Some Twitter users put together a list of high-profile female politicians and activisst who could have delivered the keynote speech instead of Sanders, among them Harvey Weinstein accuser Rose McGowan; former first lady Michelle Obama; US Supreme Court justices Sonya Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg; Hillary Clinton and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

The event still secured many high-profile women leaders for the weekend of October 27. Our program features more than 60 women leading in activism, organizing and advocacy, as well as grassroots leaders running for and serving in office across the country. Thousands of women are expected to attend, according to the convention's website: The Women's Convention will bring thousands of women, femmes and our allies of all backgrounds to Detroit from October 27 - 29, 2017, for a weekend of workshops, strategy sessions, inspiring forums and intersectional movement building to continue the preparation going into the 2018 midterm elections.

"Detroit is a attractive city, full of historical and political significance, and a multitude of lived experiences - a flawless setting for women, femmes and our allies seeking to strengthen our growing, intersectional movement", the organizer's wrote on its website.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will deliver the opening-night speech for the first-ever convention of the Women's March in Detroit in late October - and the announcement has set off yet another round of relitigating the Democratic presidential primary on Twitter.
