Elderly woman feared taken by crocodile in far north Queensland”

Anne Cameron, 79, went missing on Tuesday from an aged care facility near Port Douglas, a coastal town in the state of Queensland.

Days after an elderly woman went missing, reports have it that the woman was might have been killed by a crocodile after Australian police found possible human remains and a walking stick near a creek on Thursday.

Anne Cameron, 79, who suffers from dementia and poor eyesight, has not been seen since Tuesday.

Police confirmed they found a pile of clothing next to a small creek connected to Mowbray River, believed to be less than two kilometres from the aged care facility.

She has a medical condition that requires her to take daily medication, which she has been without for the past 48 hours, police said.

"Because of the proximity of these items and this unknown material located near this creek bank, we can not rule out the possibility of a croc attack", Acting Inspector Ed Lukin told reporters at a news conference.

A major search has been underway since yesterday with the clothing items located at the isolated creek today.

The human remains are undergoing forensic testing.

State Emergency Service area controller Sean McGuinness said the search is proving to be hard.

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection said wildlife officers were assisting police with the search for a crocodile in the area.

The broadcaster also said the beach was closed in April when a four-metre croc was spotted swimming offshore, while there had been several attacks by the reptiles on dogs in the area this year.

Ozcare, the company that runs the aged care facility, declined to comment.

Ms Wright said she was very upset when she heard Ms Cameron was missing.
