Equifax Removes Webpage to Investigate Possible Hacking”

Equifax shares dropped 3 percent Thursday after it said it has disabled one of its customer help online pages and is investigating another possible cyberbreach.

Equifax (NYSE:EFX) data may have been breached again, as the company has taken a Web page offline and says its security team is looking into reports of another hack. "We are aware of the situation", a spokesman said. Equifax said it took the site offline after suspicious activity was detected. The hack has led to multiple federal and state investigations and the departure of the company's 12-year chief executive.

The senator further called on Smith to specifically detail by November 1 the "human and technological errors" that he told lawmakers occurred to cause the breach, what, if any, safeguards the company had in place to prevent such hacks and Equifax's profits as a result of the incident.

Ars Techica reported that an independent security analyst had discovered Wednesday that hackers had manipulated part of the credit-reporting giant's website to push out malicious, fraudulent Adobe Flash updates to visitors.

Following that initial announcement, the company released information earlier this month that an additional 2.5 million Americans may have been affected by the massive breach, bringing the total to 145.5 million people.
