Israeli spies 'watched Russian agents breach Kaspersky software'

Israeli spies 'watched Russian agents breach Kaspersky software'”

Russian Federation reportedly spied on the USA using popular antivirus software by Kaspersky Lab. Germany's cybersecurity agency said it has seen no reason to warn against using the program.

Germany's BSI, which also uses Kaspersky products for technical analyses, said it was in touch with USA officials and other security agencies about the issue so it could take action and issue a warning on short notice if required.

The Israeli hackers are described as having spotted Russian hackers searching for NSA hacking tools after they themselves breached Kaspersky's internal systems.

The US Department of Homeland Security ordered all US government agencies to stop using Kaspersky products last month. Around 400 million people worldwide use the company's software.

In antivirus "Kaspersky Lab" was spelled out an in depth scan documents on the computers to search for classified information.

The NSA, the White House and the Israeli embassy in Washington have not commented on the matter.

Germany's domestic BSI intelligence agency said Wednesday that it has "no evidence" to back reports that Russian hackers exploited global civilian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab to hunt for classified American intelligence programs.

The New York Times said that the Russian embassy had not responded to a request for comment.

Kaspersky Lab has been the target of growing hostility within the United States, primarily based on the fact it is a Russian-base company.

Kaspersky's complicity in the Kremlin's cyber-burglary has not been attested by reports, although the company and its founder Eugene Kaspersky have consistently denied wrongdoing.

But Germany disputed USA officials' claims that the Moscow-based company is either collaborating with the Vladimir Putin's intelligence machine, or is being hijacked by it.

"Kaspersky Lab has never helped, nor will help, any government in the world with its cyber-espionage efforts", the company said in a statement quoted by the Times.
