McLaren creates two bespoke MSO R supercars

McLaren creates two bespoke MSO R supercars”

Called the MSO R Coupé and MSO R Spider, they are the latest in a lineage of McLarens produced as personal commissions, a service that sees the customer working closely with MSO to agree the direction, scope and specification of a project.

One of the first McLarens commissioned at this level was the McLaren X-1.

One very lucky customer will soon be taking delivery of two unique McLaren models, dubbed the MSO R Coupe and Spider.

McLaren doesn't release pricing for its bespoke models, but given that just two of these exist in completely bespoke form, the figure for each will far surpass the £261,555 that was asked for the discontinued 675LT.

Bodystyles aside, the only detail separating the two cars is the finish; satin on the coupe and gloss on the spider. The cars also get an MSO rear spoiler, louvered fenders, a roof scoop and a large rear wing. Finished in black, gloss and satin, to match the respective cars, the five-spoke wheels mimic the 675LT's as well. The explicit exclusivity of the duo is underlined - literally - by a red pinstripe beneath "MSO R" lettering on the front bumper, skirts and rear wing end plates. Primarily in black with red stitching, the theme is reversed for the seats, which are red with black stitching and feature an MSO R logo embroidered in black on the headrest.

Likewise, the interior is a mix of carbon and red trim. A gloss-black finish has be given top the switches and a satin-black one to the air vents.

This MSO Personal Commission did not stop at visual and design changes. They feature McLaren's 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which has been tuned to produce 679bhp. Today, McLaren announced that one customer is about to take home a almost identical pair of cars completely tailored to his tastes. Gains are courtesy of a hand-polished, titanium exhaust system, which features a "crossover muffler", with longer pipes optimising gas flow. There are some bespoke touches on the instrument cluster that show the MSO R logo, along with a plaque in the door of each auto.
