Mum's fight for life after unborn baby kicks hole in womb

Mum's fight for life after unborn baby kicks hole in womb”

A pregnant woman in China has been saved after her unborn baby's leg pocked out of her womb in an "extremely rare" case, a hospital claimed.

The doctors at the Peking University Shenzhen Hospital in southern China suspected it to be a case of uterine rupture.

Ms Zhang and her family thought that the mother-to-be had a stomach-ache, the MailOnline reported.

The expectant Ms Zhang was rushed to hospital in critical condition after she complained of severe stomach pain that lasted for hours.

The hospital said: 'The doctor initially suspected uterine rupture, immediately arranged to do B super.

Doctor Zhang Lei said the woman had been left with a scar on the uterus wall from the previous surgery, and the fetus ruptured it by kicking out.

After the risky discovery, doctors rushed the mum into surgery for an emergency caesarean, with fears the baby could be at risk of infection.

Women who have had fibroid-removal operations should wait for one to two years until they plan for a baby, said Dr Zhong.

Despite the dramatic delivery, mum and baby are said to be doing well.

"Rupture pregnancy" is considered to be extremely rare.

The condition can lead to fetal anoxia and catastrophic hemorrhage.

Ultrasounds showed the baby's foot poking into her mum's abdomen.

The Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, however, has declined to give more details of the operation as well as Ms Zhang's recovering progress due to "privacy issues".

The woman's risk for uterine rupture was reportedly increased because she had five previous c-sections.

The baby was delivered via c-section at 30 weeks, and ended up being healthy. Doctors were reportedly able to fix the woman's uterus after the birth of her son.
