New law would send parents of bullying children to jail

New law would send parents of bullying children to jail”

The town of North Tonowanda, New York is targeting the parents of child bullies.

Effective Oct. 1, parents in North Tonawanda could possibly face a $250 fine and 15 days in jail if twice in a 90-day period if a child under 18 violates the city curfew or any other city law including bully and harassment.

Parents in North Tonawanda could end up behind bars if their child is found bullying others.

The town council hope that the law will put a stop to bullying by forcing parents to take responsibility for their children's actions, NY Daily News reported.

Well, here's something we've never heard of before.

Victoria Crago's son was attacked by his classmates in June.

The law comes after 4 teens were kicked out of North Tonowanda Middle School for alleged bullying. "But if there's a tougher law in place it may give them pause", said Crago. "We don't want anyone to be afraid to be in our city, or walk the streets or go to school", said North Tonawanda Mayor Art Pappas.

"We want the message out there that we're serious about this". "The idea is to sort of beat our chests and say, 'We're not going to tolerate this anymore and somebody's got to do something.' If this were perceived to be a problem that needed criminalizing, it should be up to the State Legislature to criminalize it".

"The intent is to protect and prevent", said Mayor Arthur G. Pappas.
