Orders 166 phones and claims refund

Orders 166 phones and claims refund”

Allegedly, Shivam would use different customer accounts (reports suggest he used 48 different accounts) to place orders of expensive phones on Amazon and would provide the portal with a false address.

From each purchase, Chopra made a two-fold profit- once by receiving the refund and later by selling the phone without its box and documents.

In yet another case of online scam, a 21-year old man from India's national capital: New Delhi scammed Amazon of Rs 50 lakh. He would then speak with the delivery associate and collect his order at a mutually decided place within the locality.

Nineteen mobile phones, 12 lakhs in cash and 40 bank passbooks and cheques have been seized from the Chopra's home. Reflecting on the modus operandi, Delhi Police officials said Chopra not only created fictitious mail-ids, he also created accounts with different names on the app to place his orders.

Accused ordered phones on Amazon, complained that he received an empty box and seek refund. So he claimed for refund and got that.

A complaint was received in June from former Captain Syed Ishaq, 36.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Dumbere said that Chopra exploited the company's customer satisfaction policy.

After an inquiry, the police filed a case in August.

On the basis of the mobile numbers used to make calls, questioning of locals and with the help of Amazon delivery persons Shivam, a resident of Tri Nagar in Ganesh Pura was identified.

The police have arrested Chopra and his accomplice Sachin Jain, 38, a telecom operator residing near his house for supplying almost 140 pre-activated SIM-cards to the former to place orders in different names to dupe the e-commerce website.

According to the Newspaper, He asked for a refund, and got it.For the next two months, he made a business out of it, ordering Apple, Samsung and OnePlus mobile phones. He would sell the phones either on another online marketplace OLX or Gaffar market, a west Delhi market for mobiles and other imported goods that was counted by the US Trade Representative as one of the world's "notorious markets" in global piracy in 2014.
