Prisoners start fire, staff injured during attempted breakout in North Carolina”

An attempted escape from a North Carolina prison left multiple people injured Thursday, public safety officials said.

Several employees of a North Carolina prison were injured during an attempted escape Thursday afternoon. The sewing plant is a prison enterprise at Pasquotank Correctional Institute. Several employees were injured, the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Our sister station WAVY is on the way, and we will have more information as it is available. Nearby schools were placed in lockdown as a precaution, according to the public school district.

Pasquotank CI is a facility for male inmates, and is located in Elizabeth City in Pasquotank County.

Students who are bus riders who have not arrived home as of yet, will be returned to the school until we hear further from Emergency Management.

No inmates escaped and officials said the situation is under control.
