Target Expands Google Express Offer Nationwide

Target Expands Google Express Offer Nationwide”

Better yet, Google Assistant's shopping ability is being expanded soon.

By expanding Google Express nationally, more guests will be able to shop Target's assortment, including exclusive brands that are only available at Target.

The big-box retailer is among several that are deepening their relationships with Google's voice-activated shopping platform in a battle for market share against Amazon's Alexa-enabled devices.

In August, Walmart unveiled plans to rollout a similar voice-activated shopping via Google Express and Google Home tools for its 4,700 US stores and its fulfillment network "to create customer experiences that don't now exist within voice shopping anywhere else", including choosing to pick up an order in store (often for a discount) or using voice shopping to purchase fresh groceries across the country.

Target and Google teams will collaborate on creating innovative digital experiences using voice and other cutting-edge technologies to elevate Target's strength in style categories such as home, apparel and beauty. In addition, in 2018, Target shoppers will be able to link their Target.com and Google accounts, so the service will remember all their favorite items. Beginning next year, RedCard holders will be able to get 5% off most purchases and free shipping, or purchases can be made available for pickup within two hours.

In tandem with Target's roll-out on Thursday, Google has also unveiled plans to grow the number of ways customers can use the Google Assistant. Currently, Google Home and Assistant on Android TV are the only places where you can place orders, but "soon", it will go live on Android and iOS devices with the Assistant.

Google previously charged $10 a month or $95 per year for Express, but recently dropped its membership fee for the service as it struggled to keep pace with Amazon's growth.

In essence, the arrangement represents an expansion of Target's existing use of Google Express. According to Forrester Research, 12 percent of shoppers own some voice device like Echo or Google Home.

The Target team up comes just after a similar partnership with Walmart and Google. He believes that voice shopping will be more prevalent in the next few years.

This will include using voice command to pick up orders in store and using voice shopping to purchase fresh groceries, he said.

Today, for example, shopping for dry goods like coffee and paper towels through voice-enabled devices is more easily accomplished than picking out an outfit, where there are many more factors involved. But Target is aiming to ideal the response to shoppers telling the Google Assistant, "Google, find me a red dress".

Like many retailers, Target has been offering more shopping options.
