Vijay's Mersal may emerge as biggest Tamil release

Vijay's Mersal may emerge as biggest Tamil release”

For quite some time now, Kollywood (as the Tamil film industry is called) steered by the Tamil Film Producers' Council, has been protesting against the state government over the double taxation in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, the makers are confident of a hassle-free release of Mersal and they have announced that the film will see the light of the day in over 3,200 screens worldwide.

The film is releasing in record number of places in several places.

According to media reports, the flick will leave behind Prabhas' Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in terms of screen count in Kerala.

Owing to the uncertainty over the film's release, theatre owners are yet to open the advance-booking option.

Mersal stars Vijay in a triple role and he will be seen romantically paired with Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Mersal reunites Vijay with Atlee Kumar after their superhit Theri. Actor-filmmaker SJ Suryah, who impressed audiences and critics alike as a menacing villain in Spyder, plays the antagonist in this film.

With mere days left for the movie to release, Mersal is becoming the biggest firecracker down South. Vijay's second movie of the year, after the mediocre Bhairavaa, is scheduled to release next week. The film has been dubbed in Telugu as Adhirindi, and it will have a simultaneous release with its Tamil version. Directed by Atlee, Mersal releases on 18 October ahead of Diwali. It has music by double Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.

Speaking about the release, Hema Rukmani of Sri Thenandal Films was quoted by The Indian Express as saying, "Problems are there and people are trying to sort it out the most amicable way possible".
