Apple Killing Touch ID On All iPhones In 2018, Report Says

Apple Killing Touch ID On All iPhones In 2018, Report Says”

Kuo thinks Apple's going to switch over all its models to Face ID in an attempt to better compete with Android rivals.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kuo believes that Apple's transition away from Touch ID will also turn Android smartphone manufacturers away from fingerprint recognition, noting that he expects high-end Android smartphones to ditch under-display optical fingerprint recognition in favour of 3D sensing techniques.

"We predict all new 2H18F iPhone models will likely abandon fingerprint recognition", Kuo said.

While Kuo didn't refer to the possible design, if future iPhone models did lose out on Touch ID, it could mean they will adopt all-screen front panels rather than retain the bezels now found above and below the screen on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. It figures an integrated user experience composed of a full-screen design, TrueDepth Camera, facial scanning, and AR apps will help it gain a competitive advantage via differentiation.

Apple claims that Face ID is more secure and accurate when compared to Touch ID.

Touch ID was originally introduced in the year 2013, with the release of iPhone 5s, which is still a part of Apple's 2017 models, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. However, if we go by Kuo's predictions, then iPhone 8, 8 Plus could be the last set of phones from the company that feature display with bezels and Touch ID.

Kuo properly predicted numerous features in this year's iPhone X, including its new Face ID technology, which allows a user to unlock the iPhone by looking at it. Pre-orders for Apple's latest flagship device will begin on October 27 in India. iPhone X costs Rs 89,000 for 64GB variant, while the 256GB model is priced at Rs 102, 000. Kuo has said that Apple will be ditching Touch Id in the upcoming iPhones in favor of 3D sensing software used in Face Id.
