Cowboys reveal reason for Stephen Paea's sudden retirement

Paea started four games for the Cowboys in 2017, recording 4 total tackles and playing in 51.1 percent of the defensive snaps through the first quarter of the season.

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Stephen Paea has informed the club that he will retire, according to multiple reports.

The Cowboys released Carroll on Wednesday. He played in two games for Dallas and made seven tackles. The 30-year old corner played just two games in Dallas before being sidelined due to a concussion. Paea was inactive against the Green Bay Packers over the weekend. He was limited in his work in the spring and in training camp.

It's unclear if the Cowboys will make a move to address the loss of Paea. The final two years of the deal he signed were a team option that needed to be picked up 23 days before the start of the 2018 league year.

The former Beaver was drafted in the second round by the Chicago Bears in 2011 and has played for the Bears, Cowboys, Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns in his career. Or it could simply be a move to sure up a positional group that's had more than it's fair share of injury concerns as of late.
