KENYA: Street protests banned amid election row”

The government has banned any demonstrations in the Central Business Districts of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu with immediate effect.

The East African nation has witnessed heightened political tensions since the annulment of August 8 presidential elections results by the country's apex court on September 1 due to illegalities and irregularities during votes transmission. Incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta was originally declared the victor.

But the electoral body says Odinga will still be on the ballot since he didn't sign form 24A as required by law.

The CS invoked Public Order Act Cap 56 saying the Opposition supporters would no longer be allowed to picket inside the CBDs of the three cities.
