N ruined economy whenever they came into power, says Zardari”

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has lashed out at the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, saying Nawaz Sharif's party "looted" the country whenever it came to power.

"PML-N, whenever it came to power, has made the nation bankrupt, while PPP has also strengthened the economy", he said addressing a press conference in Peshawar.

Zardari said the debts piled up by the PML-N will eventually have to be repaid, while claiming the PPP always encourage economic activities and relived from foreign loans.

Turning towards the finance minister, Zardari questioned who is behind the current economic crisis and immediately demanded to declare an "economic emergency" in the country.

Any action in pursuance of the legislative clause would turn the country into a banana republic, he argued while requesting the court to declare it as illegal and strike down the notification of Nawaz Sharif's election as party president. "I congratulate you PML-N tigers", she said.

Expressing his desire to serve K-P again, the PPP leader said: "Last time the PPP couldn't do much because it was a part of a coalition government ... this time, if the party gets a chance to rule, it will leave no stone unturned and introduce as many developmental projects and create employment opportunities in the province". He said that he did not see any new Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. "Today is the time to merge Fata", he said adding the PPP will move forward despite objections from others such as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman. He said that Benazir Bhutto had approached the Supreme Court for extension of its jurisdiction to Fata.

He also criticized former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Moments before unleashing her angst, Maryam had received a call from her father, Nawaz Sharif, whose disqualification at the hands of the Supreme Court had meant that his wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, had to stand in for him and contest the by-election in NA-120, with daughter Maryam spearheading the campaign since her mother had been diagnosed with throat cancer and had proceeded to the United Kingdom for treatment.
