San Antonio has dropped out of the running for Amazon's second headquarters

The letter also notes that while San Antonio has proposals to grow in ways that would better suit what Amazon is looking for in a headquarters for their next city, lots of money is already allocated to accomplish goals like addressing childhood education, improving downtown neighborhoods, creating more affordable housing, addressing climate change, and creating a more active and healthy community.

Amazon invited cities to submit a proposal for their second headquarters, "HQ2", by October 19, 2017 back in September.

The online retail giant's search for a new home where it will employ up to 50,000 people has become a much-coveted prize for cities across the nation.

Cities across the USA are submitting proposals for the big tech business, but San Antonio leaders decided not to submit a formal proposal this week. "I mean it came out of nowhere in the first place, and the first place I learned about it was on Facebook", Brockhouse said.

In an October 5 letter obtained by The Associated Press, both OH senators and all 16 representatives of both parties pitched Amazon CEO Jeffrey Bezos on the state's assets.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg says he believes San Antonio is indeed a suitable city.

"Where we fall shorty is public transit".

"What we're not seeing is a lot of people asking the question, 'Is this a good thing long-term?'" Douglas said. The location should be within 45 minutes of an airport, no more than two miles from major arterial roads, and have direct access to rail, train, or bus routes.

The city conducted a "robust review", but has "determined that as aspirational as we are about our community's potential, we simply wouldn't be highly competitive from a real estate and incentives perspective", according to a city spokesperson.

In the letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and County Judge Nelson Wolff say although San Antonio would be a great community for Amazon, they acknowledge by some measures the Alamo City has some work to do to meet the requests from Amazon.

"To me personally, I think it's too big of an impact here for San Antonio and again I want to keep San Antonio the way San Antonio is", Perry said.

"Blindly giving away the farm isn't our style", the letter states.
