Texas A&M potentially looking at Penn State's James Franklin”

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reported Thursday afternoon that the Nittany Lions are expecting Texas A&M to court Franklin from the Nittany Lions should the Aggies part ways with current head coach Kevin Sumlin. He's led a resurgence over the last two years, winning the Big Ten championship last season and now has the Lions ranked No. 3 after a 6-0 start.

But would Franklin be interested in A&M? With two more wins, Sumlin will become the fifth coach in program history to have at least 50 victories.

Sumlin, whose 4-2 Aggies have finished with a record of 8-5 in each of the last three seasons was placed firmly on the hotseat this summer when Texas A&M athletic director Scott Woodward called out his football coach on "The Paul Finebaum Show".

Coaching in the SEC would be nothing new for Franklin as before taking the Penn State job, Franklin was the head coach at Vanderbilt for three seasons.

Would Franklin make for an upgrade over Sumlin in terms of what he brings to the Aggies? It would have to buy him out for $11.2 million if he was let go this season. Perhaps that's the main thing we can glean from this report, which, to be clear, does not even say Texas A&M *will* go after Franklin.

Despite a CBS report, Penn State football isn't preparing to fend off suitors trying to poach James Franklin away from the program, according to a statement from Penn State Athletics provided to The Daily Collegian.
