Trump thanks Pakistan, after army rescues Canadian couple”

USA officials expressed hope that the hostages' freedom could represent a turning point in relations between Pakistan and the United States, uneasy allies in fighting Taliban and other Islamist extremists in the region.

US President Donald Trump, has thanked the Pakistani government after the Pakistan Army recovered a Canadian family that had been held hostage by the Afghan Taliban.

She appeared to find a kindred adventurous spirit in Boyle, whom she met as a teenager and Wednesday in 2011. They met online as teenagers on Star Wars fan sites. But his friend said Boyle hadn't told him about any current plans to travel there.

They vanished after setting off in the summer of 2012 for a journey that took them to Russian Federation, the central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, and then to Afghanistan.

Coleman was pregnant at the time she was kidnapped, and a video released by the Taliban in December showed two sons born while she and her husband were hostages.

But their parents didn't find it all that surprising.

The family's precise whereabouts were unclear as of Thursday midday. The family remains in an undisclosed, but safe, location in Pakistan, according to U.S. officials, after Boyle refused to board a United States transport plane over concerns about his background.

According to a White House statement also issued on Thursday, Trump said that the United States in cooperation with Pakistan secured the release of the Boyle-Coleman family from captivity in Pakistan. The couple was abducted shortly thereafter.

After the release of the family, they emphasized the importance of co-operation and intelligence sharing by Washington, which has threatened to cut military aid and other punitive measures against Pakistan.

He expressed that they were expecting Boyle and his family shortly in Canada.

He said Pakistani troops and intelligence agents, acting on a USA intelligence tip, zeroed in on a vehicle holding the family as they were being moved in Kurram agency.

Two young children appear in the video with them, and Coleman has told her family that she gave birth to two children in captivity. It's unclear whether they knew she'd had a third.

"I kind of wish he would have told me, because I would have said, 'Hey, dummy, what are you doing?"

The Colemans told ABC's "Good Morning America" in 2016 they took solace in seeing their daughter and grandkids looking healthy on a video released by the captors, and in seeing the children for the first time.

The couple refused to immediately board a US-bound jet over concerns about the husband's past links to a former Guantanamo Bay inmate.

The sign asked that their privacy be respected while they "make plans for the future".
