Modi to visit Bihar, lay stones for projects worth Rs 3700 cr”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the event and along with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, an alumni of Patna University.

The total outlay of these projects will be over Rs. 3700 crores.

PU sources said the PM would share the dais at Patna Science College with governor Satya Pal Malik, the CM, deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, VC Rash Bihari Singh and Union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Upendra Kushwaha.

PM will also lay foundation stone of the four-lane bridge on river Koshi between Birpur and Bihpur section in Supaul and two-lane road between Maheshkut and Purnia and four sewage treatment plants (STP) in Patna.

The four national highway projects for which PM Modi will lay foundation stone include four-laning of Aunta-Simariya section of NH-31 and construction of six-lane Ganga Setu.

In addition, foundation stone will also be laid for two lane construction of Maheshkhunt- Saharsa- Purnea section of NH 107 and Biharsharif- Barbigha- Mokama section of NH 82.

The state BJP president has been hinting that a bonanza was on the cards, terming the prime minister's visit as a "Diwali gift" to the people of Bihar in general and Mokama in particular.

This will be PM Modi's first visit to the state since the BJP became a part of the ruling coalition in Bihar in July this year.

It will be the first time after the Mahagathbandhan government in the state collapsed in July this year, following CM Nitish Kumar severing ties with RJD and Congress to form a new government with BJP, that Lalu and Nitish will be seen together on one stage. Earlier in 2009, Nitish had shared stage with Modi as a part of NDA at a rally in Haryana.

The impoverished state has high hopes from the prime minister, who had announced a "package" of Rs 1.25 lakh crore in 2015.

Senior party leader and Bihar's Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav told in his interview that the prime minister has always been kind to the state and even when his party was not in the power the state got maximum possible assistance from the Union government. "We expect more funds for flood relief work, infrastructure development and tax concessions to meet the demand for special category status to Bihar", Tyagi said.
