Hashim Amla breaks Virat Kohli's ODI record, again

In the two-Test series, Bangladesh conceded a combined 1316 runs in three Proteas innings, grabbing 13 wickets.

Hamstrung further due to the withdrawal of premier opening bowler, Mustafizur "The Fizz" Rahman due to an injury picked up on Saturday in the build-up, the Bangladeshi bowlers failed to pick up a single wicket while Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla stormed to a record-breaking 278/0 to power the Proteas to a 10-wicket victory. Virat Kohli achieved the same in 166 innings.

Amla had earlier broken Kohli's record for the fastest batsman to reach the 7000 run-mark in ODIs. Amla took 112 deliveries for his 110 not out, hitting eight fours en route. The highest is between Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga - 286 runs against England.

Regarding his opening pair, the skipper said: "Amla and De Kock were brilliant - they were greedy, and that's what you need to be", he explained.

South Africa's Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock walk during the first One Day International (ODI) cricket match between South Africa and Bangladesh in Kimberley, South Africa, on October 15, 2017.

Kohli scored his 30th hundred in his only 194th game and is now jointly second-highest in list of century-makers alongside Ricky Ponting with only Sachin Tendulkar (49 hundreds) ahead of him.

De Kock was awarded the player of the match for his unbeaten 168 run knock. The second is between David Warner and Travis Head - 284 runs against Pakistan. They have now lost 11 ODI matches by 10 wickets, the most any team.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and made a decision to bat first.

Even though Shakib Al Hasan (29) and Mahmudullah (26) got starts, it was Mushfiqur Rahim (110 not out) who was the centre force in the innings that helped Bangladesh post 278 for seven in the 50 overs.

The previous best South African first wicket record was the 247 of Amla and Rilee Rossouw against the West Indies and it was the fourth instance of the Proteas having an opening partnership of 200 or more.
