New Jersey enters shared poker liquidity agreement with Nevada and Delaware

New Jersey enters shared poker liquidity agreement with Nevada and Delaware”

In a statement announcing New Jersey's sign up to the compact, Nevada state governor Brian Sandoval said: "I would like to thank Governor Christie for joining in partnership with Nevada and Delaware".

Some good news emerged as far as U.S. online poker liquidity is concerned this weekend as it was announced on Friday 13th October that New Jersey has entered into an interstate compacy with Nevada and Delaware. Nevada was the first state to approve online gambling and DE followed soon after.

According to Christie, the agreement "marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for online gaming". New Jersey's entry into this multi-state agreement will allow gaming operators to offer its customers a chance to participate in poker, tournaments, and progressive slot games with players in other states where they are licensed. Since the online poker market in both states proved to be sluggish and fell below market analyst expectations, Nevada and DE signed a multi-state internet gaming agreement in 2015 which allowed online poker players from the two states to compete against each other.

Meanwhile, New Jersey has revealed further growth in its own online gaming market, with revenue from internet gambling in September up 25.6% year-on-year to $20.4m (€17.3m). However nothing materialized during the last couple of years but the online gaming industry in New Jersey continued to do well and the market is expected to generate $240 million is expected to be generated in 2017. Nevada's IT team has already commenced to work with New Jersey and Delaware's technology departments but so far no deadlines have been confirmed as to when the process will be finalized.

Let's start with online gaming revenues.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said: "Pooling players with Nevada and DE will enhance annual revenue growth, attract new consumers, and create opportunities for players and Internet gaming operators". Nevada for instance levies the same tax rate on the online gaming industry as it does on its land based casino industry. Under the new agreement, a player could register in the other states and play from within their borders.

One of the operators set to benefit greatly from the development will be Caesars Interactive Entertainment, whose WSOP brand will now enjoy unfettered access to the country's largest regulated online poker market.

Under the unlawful internet gambling enforcement act of 2006, the decision on whether to legalise online gaming services was left to individual states, however only the aforementioned states have adopted the legal frameworks required to institute these services.

"The technology teams in Nevada, New Jersey and DE are going to meet to discuss next steps".
