Fire breaks out at Prime Minister's Office, brought under control”

A fire broke out at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office in the national capital Tuesday morning, China's Xinhua news agency reported officials as saying.

A report in The Indian Express (IE) has reportedly with reference to news agency ANI, ten fire tenders were rushed to South Block, Raisina Hills to douse the fire, which was controlled within 20 minutes. The room is located on the second floor of PMO.

Last year also, a similar incident of fire was reported in South Block last year on the upper ground floor of the PMO, in a conference room.

While what triggered the fire is being investigated, preliminary reports suggest that the blaze was set off due to sparking in a computer USP kept in Room No 242. An inverter, a chair and a table were gutted in the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been ascertained but there have been reports that the fire could have emanated from a spark in a UPS being used inside the office.

In January, a minor fire in the server room of Parliament House had caused panic ahead of the Budget session.
