Google Wifi gets site blocker to help kids stay safe online

Google has today announced new security settings in Google WiFi aimed at helping your protect your family.

With site blocking turned on, Google says that more than 8 million non-kid-friendly websites won't show through on devices you specify. You can choose which family members to apply the blocking to, so young children benefit from automatic blocking while older ones are restricted from a few manually defined entries.

You're never really that far away from inappropriate content online and it's important to ensure that kids don't stumble upon that. "With Site Blocking - the latest addition to Google Wifi's family controls - we're removing some of the worry".

The feature builds off the SafeSearch feature introduced in Google Search back in 2009 that prevents more nefarious sites from showing up in results. In fact, with site blocking turned on, Google will automatically start blocking new sites as they are added without any work from you. The Google Wifi iOS app has already been updated this morning with these site blocking controls. Google Wifi is still an excellent option if you're in the market for a mesh router system, and a new feature is now rolling out to the device that should make raising kids in the 21st century a whole lot easier. SafeSearch automatically blocks sites and is updated in real time by the SafeSearch team.
