Bulls suspend Bobby Portis 8 games after fight with teammate Nikola Mirotic”

The Chicago Bulls have suspended forward Bobby Portis for the first eight games for injuring teammate Nikola Mirotic during a fight at practice.

Unsurprisingly, the league wants to discuss the incident with Portis, and according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the two parties have a call scheduled for Wednesday. "Our locker room is a family", Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said.

According to The Vertical's Shams Charania, Mirotic and Portis got into a shoving altercation during practice before Portis threw a punch, connecting with Mirotic's face.

Paxson said the Bulls expect Mirotic to be out for 4-6 weeks, but that Mirotic will have to clear concussion protocol before the team's doctors can assess the damage to his face.

Mirotic, 26, suffered a concussion and facial fractures after a physical altercation with fellow forward Bobby Portis. Surgery is likely required. Chicago opens the 2017-18 season Thursday with a road game against the Toronto Raptors. Mirotic was hospitalized after the incident.

Once Portis comes back from his suspension, our models project him to average 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds over 22.4 minutes per game. He finally prolonged his time with the Bulls, signing a two-year contract worth 27 million dollars. The club holds an option on the second season.
