Delta Says It Supports Military Following Claims It Banned Singing National Anthem

A doctor has found herself at the center of controversy after she says she was told not to sing the national anthem on a plane that was transporting the body of a fallen American soldier.

God bless this great country.

Pamela Gaudry said when she found out that Staff Sgt. Dustin Wright's remains were on the flight from Philadelphia to Atlanta, she and other passengers made a decision to stand and sing the "Star-Spangled Banner" as soldiers removed his casket from the cargo hold, WTOC reported.

"I'm humiliated by my lack of courage to sing the national anthem in my own country, on American soil - with a deceased soldier on the plane", Gaudry said in the video, which was shot at the airport. "I wish I could have been an example for my children", Gaudry said.

As the plane began its descent, Gaudry said the chief flight attendant told her that her plans were against company policy.

As the airline announced it was carrying the casket of a soldier, Gaudry chose to suggest to fellow passengers that they stand and sing the national anthem in a gesture she says was meant to honor the soldier. "It is against company policy, '" Gaudry added. A flight attendant told her that singing "The Star Spangled Banner" would make passengers from other countries uncomfortable, she said. In the video, Gaudry said she did the "most uncourageous thing in my life today".

In a statement to Inside Edition, Delta said: "Our employees worldwide take great pride in Delta's longstanding support of the military". Gaudry said she and fellow passengers were told "to stay quietly in our seats" as an honor guard escorted the casket from the plane Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

"The respectful ceremony of the Delta Honor Guard is one symbol of Delta's pledge to the men and women of the armed forces, and it represents our broad commitment to our veterans and active-duty service members". A Delta spokeswoman confirmed to the Daily News that the company has contacted her and said it doesn't have a policy about singing the national anthem. "We have reached out to the customer and are looking into this situation", the company added, according to The Hill.

"If it instigates a spiritual and patriotic feeling in this country, I'm thrilled", Gaudry said of her video. "For just this reason, I personally do not believe in a boycott of Delta". Profusely. I accept. Like many things in life ... it should have been handled differently. Many agreed enthusiastically, she said.
