North Korea threatens 'unimaginable' strike on U.S. after military drills

North Korea threatens 'unimaginable' strike on U.S. after military drills”

The North's intimidation came as the South Korean and us navies are staging massive joint drills in waters off the Korean Peninsula with the usa aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan being involved.

The North says the exercises are "driving the tension into the worst line of explosion", and prove that the USA and South Korea are "attempting to ignite a war on the Korean Peninsula". "The US should expect that it would face unimaginable strike at an unimaginable time", a spokesman from the Pan-Korean emergency measure committee for opposing nuclear war drills said, as cited by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday.

It is conducting drills with the South Korean navy involving 40 warships deployed in a line stretching from the Yellow Sea west of the peninsula into the Sea of Japan.

USA and South Korea military forces began five days of military exercises on Monday that involve fighter jets, helicopters and about 40 ships and submarines.

The US navy said earlier that the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier and two US destroyers would take part.

"We have made it clear with this exercise, and many others, that we are ready to defend the Republic of Korea", Rear Admiral Marc Dalton, the U.S.S. Reagan strike group's commander told Reuters.

North Korea has slammed the warship gathering as a "rehearsal for war".

The remarks come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.

China has already begun to implement UN Security Council sanctions last month.

North Korea has continued to test ballistic missiles and nuclear explosives despite continued global pressure to denuclearize. It's not the first time North Korea has denounced the drills, either.

KCNA also reportedly blamed the USA for "creating tension on the eve of war" by participating in civilian evacuation drills in South Korea over the weekend.

"The entire US mainland is within our firing range", the statement said. "Let's hope that diplomacy works", he said.
