Elon Musk gets OK to begin digging for Hyperloop project in Maryland”

Elon Musk, billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has been given permission to use machines from his new startup The Boring Company to build a tunnel that could eventually connect Baltimore to NY via a futuristic high-speed transportation system known as Hyperloop.

Hogan said on Facebook that he is "incredibly excited" to support the project.

"I think it's coming to Maryland and it's going to go from Baltimore to Washington, so get ready", Hogan said when asked his thoughts on the Boring Company's Hyperloop. It's probably not a huge risk on Maryland's part, given the limited scope of the initial project - and if this works out, they can always turn the site into a tourist attraction for the start of the world-famous underground hyperloop network. The permit allows Musk's company to dig a 10.3-mile tunnel beneath the state-owned portion of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

Elon Musk launched his Boring Company earlier this year with the ultimate goal of building underground tunnels that connect cities, which could support a Hyperloop or cars.

Musk said in July that the Boring Company had received "verbal government approval" from the federal level to dig a tunnel that would support a Hyperloop between NY and D.C. with stops in Baltimore and Philadelphia.

The state said it does not expect to contribute to the building of the project, which will be funded by Musk's companies. No sign of a boring machine, or any digging at all.
