Huddersfield vs Manchester United Preview

Huddersfield vs Manchester United Preview”

You have to travel back all the way to 1971 for when Huddersfield last hosted the Red Devils in what was one of their last meetings for many years.

The Red Devils will then welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford in the league next weekend, before the small matter of a trip to Chelsea on November 5.

Huddersfield haven't beaten United since 1952.

A recognisable improvement in the attacking side of United has been backed up brilliantly by a solid defence, which has only conceded four times in all competitions this season.

And it is safe to say they are not on the best form to face one of the top squads in the league such as United's. They sit second in the Premier League standings with 20 points after eight games, and also sit at top of Group B standings in the Champions League following their previous three wins.

With things going well for Mourinho's side and David Wagner's Terriers finding points hard to come by, it could prove to be a tough task for the home side as they host one of the favourites for the Premier League crown this year.

Romelu Lukaku has scored 11 goals in his first 12 appearances for Manchester United, but has drawn a blank in the club's last two games as the team struggled against Liverpool and Benfica since the worldwide break.

David Wagner is still notably missing forward Steve Mounie (heel), with Laurent Depoitre still his stand in.

"Phil Billing has a serious injury". Collin Quaner and Kasey Palmer, meanwhile, are still unavailable due a calf problem and hamstring injury respectively.

The 12th-place Terriers remain without Chelsea loanee Kasey Palmer (hamstring) and centre-back Michael Hefele (achilles), while it is unclear exactly when long-term absentee Jon Gorenc Stankovic might able to return from anterior cruciate ligament damage suffered while on global duty with the Slovenian Under-21 team back in March.

Matic has proven to be the most influential player in United's midfield and he will be looking to continue his good work against Huddersfield Town as well.

Manchester United: De Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young; Mata, Herrera, Matic, Martial; Mkhitaryan, Lukaku.

Mourinho faced criticism for his negative tactics in United's goalless draw at Anfield last Saturday but defended himself after the win over Benfica.
