Kevin Anderson goes down in Stockholm Open quarter-final”

Grigor Dimitrov has moved closer to qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals with a straight-sets victory over Germany's Mischa Zverev to reach the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open.

Dimitrov is now sixth in the Race to London rankings with the top eight qualifying.

Top-seeded Dimitrov climbed fifth ahead of Marin Cilic in the race to qualify for the O2 tournament with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem having already confirmed their places.

After only dropping six points on serve in the opening set, Dimitrov - champion in 2013 - looked like he would have a fight on his hands when Fognini reeled off four games in a row to lead 4-2 in the second.

"I knew it was not going to be easy but at the same time I thought I kept a very good intensity throughout".

In Sunday's final, Dimitrov will play defending champion Juan Martin del Potro after the giant Argentine, seeded fourth, defeated Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/1).

Despite falling 6-7 (3) in the first set, Fognini recovered to take the remaining sets 7-6 (2), 7-5 and edge past the No. 3 seed in a gruelling contest which fell just short of three hour mark.

He will face world number 26 Schwartzman after the Argentine twice battled back in an enthralling second set to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 7-5.
