One killed, seven injured in mall attack in Poland”

Emergency services transport a victim to an ambulance following an attack at a mall in Stalowa Wola, Poland on October 20.

One person has been killed and nine others injured after a man carried out a knife ramage at a shopping centre in southeast Poland.

Later in the day, the Polish police said they were ruling out terrorism as the motive behind the knife attack.

The alleged attacker, a 27-year-old man, attacked people at the VIVO! mall in Stalowa Wola on Friday.

His weapon was a knife and a 50-year-old woman who was attacked at the mall died later in the hospital, the regional police spokeswoman in Rzeszow, Anna Klee, was quoted by the PAP news agency as saying.

Eight people were taken to nearby hospitals. She says five women and four men between 50 and 18 were wounded.

Krzysztof Pobuta, a police official, said that the man was unable to explain the attack.

Four of those injured underwent surgery, with two in critical conditions.

The attacker - which some local press identified only as Konrad K. - reportedly started stabbing people from behind before several shoppers and a bodyguard were able to tackle him to the ground until police arrived, the Mirror reported.

Police has denied the attack to be a terrorist attack.

Police said the attack was not terror-related, adding that the 27-year-old attacker was a psychiatric patient.
