Sean Penn lawyers warn Netflix over El Chapo documentary

Sean Penn lawyers warn Netflix over El Chapo documentary”

The series in question, The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story, centres on the freaky episode in October 2015 when del Castillo, a Mexican actress, and Penn were given an audience with one of the world's most wanted men, the drug dealer Joaquín Guzmán Loera, also known as El Chapo. And they demand that Netflix alter their content as it's now being presented.

Actress Kate del Castillo helped Penn set up an interview at Guzman's Mexican hide-out for a Rolling Stone article in 2015, which was published the day after Guzman was recaptured by officials in January, 2016.

Sean Penn has been battling a Netflix documentary over suggestions he aided the capture of notorious Mexican kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

'My concern is that we are taking an vast amount of pressure from all directions related to Sean Penn and now Netflix has done a great job of hanging tough. but their nerves are on edge, ' he wrote.

As can been seen from the trailer below, the El Chapo series mainly focuses on del Castillo, who's political thriller Ingobernable series was renewed in April for a second season with Netflix.

The rep goes on, "The notion that Mr. Penn or anyone on his behalf alerted DOJ to the trip is a complete fabrication and bald-faced lie".

Way back in 2015, before a crazed reality star became our president, the weirdest thing imaginable was a movie star having a secret rendezvous with the most wanted man in the world. "Then in September, after Sean Penn had watched the series, he said he'd be interviewed and demanded that changes be made, with Sean Penn's lawyer, Theodore J. Boutrous Jr., sending a letter to Broome's production company, calling the series a, "reckless, misleading and self-serving" account", adding that it's "profoundly disappointing" that the streaming service chose to, "disregard the extreme danger they are knowingly creating".

David Broome, who produced the series, said, "We never say in this documentary that Sean Penn is in cahoots with the DOJ". "It never happened, nor would there have been any reason for it to have happened". Here's what Netflix had to say in a statement.

TMZ obtained an email from The Day I Met El Chapo executive producer David Broome, who wrote, "My concern is that we are taking an vast amount of pressure from all directions related to Sean Penn and now Netflix has done a great job of hanging tough - but their nerves are on edge..."

"This is nothing but a cheap, National Enquirer-esque tale spun be a delusional person whose hunger for fame is both tawdry and transparent", a spokesperson for Penn told Deadline today of the series that premieres early Friday on Netflix.

Netflix said that Penn had numerous opportunities to provide his side of the story, but he had refused to participate. Netflix reiterated the documentary does not reveal any new information but gave del Castillo her chance to tell her side of the story.
