Tech CEO arrested on charges of child abuse, battering an officer”

A prominent San Francisco tech CEO has been arrested and charged with felony assault, sexually abusing a child and committing battery against police and emergency workers while resisting arrest, according to new reports.

He was removed from his position on Thursday and has been replaced by Rick Tallman, previously COO and CFO of Vungle.

The 29-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges earlier this week in San Mateo County.

Jaffer was featured as part of Inc.'s 35 Under 35 Coolest Entrepreneurs package in 2014.

"While we do not have any information that is not in the public record at this point, these are extremely serious allegations, and we are shocked beyond words", a Vungle spokesperson told VentureBeat on Friday.

Jaffer's next scheduled court date is November 1, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's records. However, the District Attorney filed a felony assault charge rather than the attempted murder charge.

Jaffer began Vungle six years ago and has four felonies that he was charged with - assault, two offense of sexual acts with a person less than 14 and child abuse, said media reports. "The company stressed that this matter has nothing to do with Mr. Jaffer's former role at the company".

Police arrested Jaffer on 15 October at about 4AM at his family's house in Hillsborough, about 18 miles south of San Francisco after they were called to the house by his father, Wagstaffe said, Forbes reported. When he started Vungle he did not have enough funding to run the organization but entered a competition sponsored by Angelpad, a startup incubator.

We learned of the allegations late Monday night, and convened a board meeting, removed him as CEO and I was appointed permanent CEO all within 24 hours.

Tallman reiterated that Jaffer did not step down due to personal reasons, as erroneously reported, the company instead removed him as quickly as was possible.

"The actions of one individual are in no way reflective of the nearly 200 dedicated and hard-working people who work for Vungle".

Everyone at the company is shocked and saddened by these events, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. The company said it employs about 200 people and generates annual revenue of about $300 million.
