Radicalization taking place in J&K, but Army addressing it seriously: Bipin Rawat

Radicalization taking place in J&K, but Army addressing it seriously: Bipin Rawat”

Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Saturday presented the President's Standard to 47 Armoured Regiment on behalf of President Ram Nath Kovind.

"Radicalisation is taking place".

He also said that the radicalisation was a global phenomenon and it was being done through social media.

He said Jammu and Kashmir government, the police, the administration and everybody was concerned about radicalisation.

"We have asked to constitute Mohalla committees and hand over all suspected persons to credible members of committee for investigations", the statement read. "It is a worldwide phenomenon and we are addressing it seriously". He asked "Why do you see it as a challenge?"

"It [braid chopping] has happened in other parts of the country". It is a routine matter.

General Rawat also did not subscribe to a report's view that braid chopping incidents in the Valley pose a "challenge" to the Army.

The Army Chief further said that the enquiry into the terror attacks in Uri and Nagrota has been completed and all possible measures have been ensured that the terrorists are not able to target military establishments in Jammu and Kashmir anymore. Whatever success is achieved, will emerge in future.

Led by Parade Commander Col. Anubhav Gairola, the Armed units presented a parade of tanks and gave salute to the Army Chief after they received the President's Standard.

He said a surgical strike was only one way to deal with the training camps and eliminate militants.

Thanks to difficulty in monitoring every inch of cyber space by the various Central and State Government agencies, it is becoming easy to lure vulnerable youth and "indoctrinate" them through "malicious" propaganda material easily made available on social media platforms.

"In all these situations, Indian Army has to be always ready", he said. "It was used in the past too". On the possibility of a Doklam-like situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Rawat said, "We have to remain alert".

"Military has a task and we will continue to perform that task".

"Any talks or anything that has to be done, will be decided at the political level. What is happening, just shows the frustration of terrorists", General Rawat said.

"In fact, these camps were never closed". "Accordingly, operations are being done".

"Punishment is being awarded to people found guilty", he said when asked whether action was taken against the guilt army officials.

"It (17 corps) is being raised as a force of deterrence. It is for deterrence and deterrence is against any threat that may confront the nation".
