BJP releases list of star campaigners for Himachal polls

The list, which has been released almost two weeks ahead of the crucial polls, includes 40 key BJP figures including Prime Minister Narendra and party chief Amit Shah.

With just few weeks left for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections 2017, the Congress has released the list of 40 star campaigners for the state.

The star campaigner list also includes chief ministers of UP, goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Madhya Pradesh.

The prime minister's top cabinet ministers including Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Uma Bharti, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari and Smriti Irani will also be a part of the election campaigning.

The state's politics is dominated largely by upper castes - Rajputs and Brahmins - who together constitute more than 50% of Himachal Pradesh's population.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had already held a public meeting in Mandi town on 7 October where he had announced Virbhadra Singh as CM face in HP and said he would become the CM for the seventh time. The saffron party is yet to announce chief ministerial candidate for the state.

Former Himachal Pradesh chief ministers P K Dhumal and Shanta Kumar, Lok Sabha member Anurag Thakur, state BJP chief Satpal Singh "Satti", former Bihar BJP president Mangal Pandey and Bhojpuri actor-turned-politician Manoj Tiwari will also campaign for the party in the hill state.
