Directors Guild Files Disciplinary Charges Against Harvey Weinstein

Directors Guild Files Disciplinary Charges Against Harvey Weinstein”

An attorney for Weinstein did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Despite the fact that the DGA never commented on internal matters of the Union, at this time, the Guild members decided to make an exception in Weinstein because of the scandal.

DGA President Thomas Schlamme said that the guild made the charges over a week ago, on October 13.

Harvey Weinstein has already been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Guild of producers, and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, during the last few weeks. He has apologized for his behavior, but through a spokeswoman, he has denied sexually assaulting anyone.

After multiple reports and op-eds criticizing Harvey Weinstein for not taking his sex- addiction rehabilitation program seriously, his representative has responded with a statement about his treatment plan. "Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance".

"Mr Weinstein has a different recollection of the events, but believes Lupita is a brilliant actress and a major force for the industry", a representative for Weinstein told E!

The move comes after a litany of sexual harassment and assault accusations against Weinstein, with actresses and other women coming forward on an nearly daily basis.

President of the DGA, Thomas Schlamme, said: "As a man in this industry, I have a responsibility to not just condemn the actions of others, but to look inside myself".

Police in NY and London have said they are investigating allegations of sexual assault involving Weinstein.

The Metropolitan Police is investigating five allegations against Weinstein spanning from the late 1980s to 2015.

The group added that "every individual has the right to a safe workplace".

For far too long, many have not spoken out - directors, agents, crew, executives, performers, producers, writers.
