Real Madrid looking to improve home record against Eibar

Real Madrid looking to improve home record against Eibar”

Atletico's attacking options while they wait for Diego Costa's return in January have been much criticised in recent weeks, particularly after a 0-0 draw at Azerbaijani champions Qarabag on Wednesday left their chances of reaching the Champions League last 16 in peril.

And they were on top of Sunday's visitors thanks to a Paulo Oliveira own goal after 18 minutes - the defender beating Sergio Ramos to a risky cross only to loop his header past his goalkeeper and into the top corner.

Spain midfielder Asensio saw his inswinging cross diverted into the net by Eibar defender Paulo Oliveira with 18 minutes played at the Bernabeu before sweeping in the second 10 minutes later.

Substitute Marcelo added the third in the 82nd with a low drilled effort into the far corner to wrap up the victory.

In the end, Real were good value for the 3-0 win and are now back to five points behind leaders Barcelona. Barcelona leads by four points over Valencia, with Madrid another point behind.

The win took Madrid to third on 20 points from nine games.

Kevin Gameiro's first goal of the season proved decisive at Balaidos, with the Frenchman hooking home from close range in the 28th minute after Celta's defence failed to deal with Saul's right-wing corner. "The team showed that it can dig in, and that it doesn't mind holding up in its area if it has to protect a result". Club president Carlos Mourino said that Celta will refund the cost of the tickets for the seats that had to be left empty.

And Leganes sit fifth after Claudio Beauvue scored the only goal to beat off-form Athletic Bilbao 1-0.

The French forward led a counterattack from near midfield, dodged one tackle, changed feet to avoid a second challenge, and rifled the ball over goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for the 54th-minute goal.

"I've come through a hard time", Gameiro, who missed the start of the season through injury, told BeIN Sports Spain.

Cedric Bakambu kept up his stunning scoring streak as Villarreal thumped lowly Las Palmas 4-0.
