After a long Diwali break, market commenced higher at 32,411.86 points, tracking a firm trend at Asian markets.

The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.46 per cent and the S&P BSE small-cap index also gained 0.12 per cent.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading 34.45 points or 0.11 per cent lower soon after opening.

Bharti Airtel emerged as top performer with 4.99 per cent rise, followed by Reliance Industries at 3.05 per cent. In just one hour of the trade about Rs 1,682.54 crore worth of shares were exchanged hands on Nifty 50, out of which RIL contributed around Rs 330 crore - which is an unusual figure on Muhurat trading followed by Bharti Airtel, and Axis Bank.

Among BSE sectoral indices, oil & gas index gained the most by 1.02 per cent, TECk 0.85 per cent, IT 0.81 per cent and metal 0.72 per cent.

Major gainers were BhartiAirtel (2.76 pct), HeroMotco (1.55 pct), ICICI Bank (1.49 pct), Reliance (1.44 pct), Adaniport (1.39 pct), Coal India (1.33 pct) and Sunpharma (1.28 pct).

While, FMCG fell by 0.66 per cent, healthcare 0.64 per cent and capital goods 0.23 per cent.

The BSE Sensex staged a strong comeback to end higher by almost 117 points, reversing its three-session losing run on gains in telecom, energy, realty, oil & gas and IT stocks amid firm global cues.

A firmer dollar nudged gold down 0.4 per cent to $1,275.07 an ounce.

In the euro zone, Frankfurt's DAX rose 0.26 per cent and Paris CAC 40 up 0.21 per cent in their late morning deals.
