The voice of Gujarat can not be suppressed or bought: Rahul Gandhi”

Rahul had earlier, on Monday, also given his party a theme for the election - Gujaratis are priceless and can't be purchased - hoping to make incremental electoral gains by drawing on the pride of the voters in the state where Modi had managed to retain his clout by riding on the popularity of his "Gujarati Asmita" remark. Throughout these nineteen years, Sonia Gandhi faced many ups and downs in the party and subsequently headed towards the victory in 2004 and 2009 elections.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi criticised the ruling BJP government for its policies of alleged industrial appeasement in the state and for failing to bring about all-round development. As an obvious example, we have not seen a very competent and extremely articulate and a well-read person like Shashi Tharoor being given any key role to revive the party. In his speech, he attacked the BJP and PM Narendra Modi in strong words. Narendra Patel claimed he was given Rs 10 lakh as advance money for joining the BJP.

Gandhi on Monday said that Gujarat can never be bought, after there have been accusations that the Bharatiya Janata Party offered massive amounts of money to Patidar movement leaders to switch camps.

"Modi ji talks of 'Make in India.' But Gujarat today has 30 lakh unemployed youngsters", he alleged.

Extending olive branches to two other prominent youth agitators Hardik Patel and Jignesh Mevani, Rahul said the youth of the state are unable to stay quiet as they have been harassed so much.

A day ahead of Rahul's visit in a dramatic turn of event, it was just revealed that BJP tried to buy the Patidar leader Narendra Patel, offering him 1 crore. It can never be bought.

He was taking a dig at the bribery allegations levelled against the BJP and the president of its Gujarat unit by Patidar leader Narendra Patel on Sunday. "It will never be bought".

# PM Modi didn't take Congress' advice to simplify GST. This voice of Gujarat can not be silenced or suppressed. He said GST had ruined India's economy and called it "Gabbar Singh Tax". He even raised this at the Navsarjan Janadesh Mahasammelan. Now there is a GST with 28 per cent tax and three return forms.

BJP's popularity in the state is at an all time low with several castes and communities raising the banner of revolt against the party for not giving in to their longstanding demands.

The Congress has been out of power in Gujarat for the past 22 years.

These elections are also a test for the likes of Thakor, Mevani and Hardik and only results will tell whether their popularity could translate into votes. "People are now openly expressing doubts and misgivings about how the BJP government and Mr Modi are performing", he said.
