David Fincher Said No Thanks to Making a Star Wars Movie

According to the producer of Motive, David Robillard (David Robillard), through the campaign of Star Wars Battlefront II takes players from five to eight hours.

David Fincher is one of Hollywood's most celebrated directors, earning two Academy Award nominations for his work on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network. He said he spoke with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy about the job at the time, admitting that while "it's a plum assignment", he's not necessarily interested in that sort of franchise filmmaking. I don't know what's worse - being George Lucas on the set of the first one, where everybody's going 'Alderaan?

The former, Fincher imagines, was a position where everyone on set had way too many questions about the fiction of Star Wars, down to the pronunciations of places and names.

Obviously, Fincher is joking about Ford and Fisher, though neither is known for suffering fools lightly, especially when it comes to directors. "You'd have to really be sure this is what you wanted to do because either way it's two years of your life, 14 hours a day, seven days a week".

Ultimately, it was the time committed to directing a "Star Wars" film that Fincher couldn't get his head around. "There's no getting around it".

Much like the furore now surrounding who will direct Bond 25 (we have some avant-garde suggestions, by the way) a similar situation arose when the Star Wars franchise was looking for someone to take the helm. So in the end, Fincher decided against it. His style is as meticulous as it is thoughtful and slow, there is simply no room for that in a Star Wars film.

EA and DICE have certainly made Palpatine stronger for Battlefront II. Or any social commentary, for that matter, which nearly all of Fincher's films do in rather profound ways.
