Plane Headed to Vegas Strikes Birds, Diverted to NY”

Flight 877, an Airbus 320 aircraft bound for Las Vegas, landed just before 7:30 p.m., according to FlightAware, an online flight data tracker.

A JetBlue plane from Boston to Las Vegas has struck some birds shortly after takeoff and has been diverted to NY.

The crew of Flight 877 declared an emergency and meant to return to Logan. The plane flew at a low altitude (3,700 feet) and a slow speed (approximately 200 mph) in a holding pattern over Long Island for almost an hour as it makes its approach to JFK. Pilots opted to head toward New York for the emergency landing because of poor weather in Boston, the New York Post reported.

Initially, the plane was going to turn around and go back to Boston. however, it was directed to go to JFK International Airport instead.
